Monograms & Marriage
Yikes! The most often question that most people fret over is how do I monogram something for a newlywed couple? There are three ways to do this. It is strictly a personal choice! You can choose a traditional, modern type, or its always safe to go with a single initial monogram.
Traditional Monogram
(in the south especially) Certain items were to be monogrammed with the husband's initials and certain items with the wife's monogram! Typically the following items were to have the male initials in a block font in the first, middle, and last name order when reading left to right.
- Cocktail Glasses
- Ice Buckets
- Cutting Boards
The wife's initials were to appear in a script fancy font such as Vines with the new last name initial appearing in the center larger than the other initials, and her maiden name on the right side. The following products are the most popular for this style of monogram.
- Wine Glasses
- Linens
- Towels
- Serving Pieces
Modern Monogram
Reading the monogram from left to right:
1) Wife’s first name initial.
2) Husband’s last name initial - this initial is larger than the initials on each side of it.
3) Husband’s first name initial.
The best font choice for a modern monogram is one that is not too feminine such a circle or a roman font.
Single Initial Monogram
For a married couple, the first initial of the husband’s last name is the best option to choose. Any font choice can be chosen when selecting a single initial monogram.
